Ellegirl Magazine online… heard through Ypulse.com there was going to be all sorts of interesting stuff in it, like about Nerd Girls and engineering. We were hopeful. So what’s missing in their lineup of fashion, beauty, entertainment, boys, mylife, community, quizzes, games, horoscopes – how about Girlfriends? School? Interests (other than boys, fashion, beauty), that is, three things that are central to the lives of high school and middle school girls. I don’t even see the Nerd article on the front page… Instead there’s an article about “breaking into the biz” of modeling (I guess we can count that towards careers? HA!), Queen for a day (another career, but also a way to publicize the Marie Antoinette movie), costume jewelry (more pr for the movie), the new OC, and another on OC’s Mischa Barton’s “style” (my lord the OC is fighting a losing battle to get their fans back aren’t they?), an article on how to deal with step-parents and siblings (YAY, good one, and I bet so helpful to girls out there but I bet it's full of advice to be nice), Halloween costumes (sexy Britney is one suggestion), love advice from a cute boy celebrity, article on different cute boy celebrity, jealous boyfriends, a popstar’s plastic surgery gone bad. Under “clubs” three have begun: Future Designers, Cherry Lipgloss, and PinkPeople. How limiting. And yes, the nerd girl video is there. And it’s great at first BUT why did Ellegirl feel it was necessary to tell us these engineering students do it all while still lookin’ pretty? “FYI, being smart does NOT mean you can’t be pretty, popular, or a girlie girl too. The ladies of Tufts University’s chick engineering program look damn good while embracing their inner nerds”. The video ends with a reconfirming for all of us that even though these girls like math and science, they don’t have to give up all the things Ellegirl represents. Last young woman on video: “I’m definitely really girly…I enjoy being a girl.” http://www.ellegirl.com/article/7168.
Yeah, I guess if you're an ugly nerd sucks for you.
Sigh... so if I may ask, are there any positive teenage girl magazines available today? I used to read seventeen, but I probably would shudder at it now. If anyone knows of some I'd love to know.

Try TEEN VOICES. I really like it! Maybe I should find the webpage and add it to our list on the left.

yeah there arent many good teen magazines..theres always american girl. i couldnt tell that it was bought by mattel very girl friendly too. I also think its really pathetic that girls who wanna go into engineering are referred to as "nerds", and that all girls magazines have like what celebrity is dating who or "are u zac efrons dream girl" or "how to get your crush to notice you". I myself am into alot of computer magazines(web design, photoshop, flash, etc.) and they are really cool and i couldnt care less about what makeup is in style. Im shocked that girls at my school who are like 13 feel the need to wear make up and have boyfriends. It just seems that you cant see the line between adult and kid anymore...

Actually, a girl who is both petty and smart is pretty cool because she it shows that you don't have to blend in with boys for power.
